Key Takeaways
- A lot of the tools you'll need for an EBC probably overlap with your existing toolset.
- You'll need an Email Service Provider, and you'll want a survey tool, something for your course's Landing Page, and probably Zapier for integrations -- that's where some of the fancier stuff comes in
- There are a lot of good free tools out there that will address any potential gaps

I hope youβre more excited than overwhelmed by the EBC Builder.
Iβm going to be explicit about when, where, and how to make the most of those resources.
Hereβs the great news: right now, you can pretty much ignore them!!
Feel free to take a little tour, but until we get into Chapter 2, weβre mostly focused on getting you set up for success.

As for todayβs contentβ¦
It's all about what you'll use.
Chapter 4 is where we'll get into the details ofΒ howΒ you'll use it.
For your sake, I'm giving my personal preferences (Iβve trialed a LOT of technology over the past 3 years). For an email-based course, the most important piece of tech is... your email service provider.
Shocking, right?

I am a huge fan of both MailerliteΒ andΒ Kit
Mailerlite's new platform is much better than the old one. They provide great service, the automations are easy to build, and the email template builder is exceptional.
Kit is also great! Unlike Mailerlite, where you'll need to build a unique automation for each email (if you want to enable self-pacing... more on this later), Kit can handle it all in single automation.
Kit also gives you the ability to edit live emails (with Mailerlite you have to turn them off to edit, which can be annoying), and the way they also have quality service.
Both are good options and we have video walkthroughs of all the technical stuff for both platforms in the EBC builder. (thanks to Will who you will see in those videos!)
If you're just about to make your email service provider selection
Let me save you some time: Weβve trialed SendinBlue, Active Campaign, MailChimp, Drip, Campaign Monitor, and Hubspot.
When it comes to EBCs, Mailerlite and Converkit are winners.

Next, you'll need a landing page to sell the course.
Hereβs how I play it: My βMastering the Email-Based Courseβ landing page is built on Notion (which I love -- it's also free), and I got the emailbasedcourse domain set up with some slick customizations and themes through a $12/month service called Super.so.
My main AmandaGoetz.com website is through Squarespace but when creating Notion courses like EBC, the ease of Super.so is a no-brainer.

Other free products I use
Figma (for designing the header images and progress tracker), Tally (for surveys), and Zapier*. If you donβt have a design or survey tool already, Iβd check out the links at the bottom to get accounts set up β no action required beyond that.
- if youβre just using Zapier to connect Stripe, Convertkit (or some other ESP), Tally, and other βnon-premiumβ apps, then itβs free for 100 tasks per month, up to 5 zapsβ¦ which you'll likely be able to get away with.
I'm also a fan of the Grammarly extension and would be a liar if I didn't mention ChatGPT... it's a solid editor!

HOMEWORK:
- Pick your email provider
- Pick your landing page provider
Start there and we will focus more later in this course.

As a general rule
I try not to link out to anything until the very end of the email.
You can lose people to fun links and it's hard to get them back. So here I am, living my truth... here are links to all the assets I mentioned above:
That's all for this email!
Fast forward: click the linkΒ to get the next email (and look at how far you've already come -- one chapter down! 3 to go!)
See you soon,
